Season began with drama as practice on Friday was completely ruined by an oil leak. Saturday qualifying was also ruined by a miss fire, Poor quality fuel pipes causes injectors to block up. A new set of injectors arrived at the circuit with 10 minutes to spare for the start of the race. Starting from the back of the Grid last year would put us 3 rd or 4 th on the grid , but unfortunately for us ( fortunately for the club) we were 10 th . The dash to the front took 2 laps and a 300 metre lead was how we finished. Incredible drive from James and great job from the team that support him. Go to the KONI face book page to watch those amazing first 3 laps. Well testimony to the amazing KONI/H&R suspension and of course the Powerflex suspension bushes
We certainly see this car as a work in progress and have already organised a complete new set of fuel lines to avoid similar disappointments. We had problems also with the gear linkage, but a new one is already being modified ready to refit this week.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Zwartkops race track on the Public holiday 21 march for round 2 of this truly exciting FSI Class (now renamed Class A). We will keep you all updated here and on the KONI page of Face book.
The H&R Polo’s are coming on nicely, the black H&R car refitted with genuine Audi S 3 wheels and new Yokie boots. Wheels fitted beautifully with the aid of a set of H&R adapters available at the store. They converted the P C D to the 5 x 112 and spaced the wheel perfectly to the body. Minor touching issues sorted by Ashley in the front. The H&R coil over kit ensures great traction and handling whilst keeping the insane stance.
Time for the van make over to get the final touches
The stickers will be ready soon , the new bumper is finished , thanks to our sponsors GRAND TECH AUTO as always for their outstanding craftmenship.
The White KONI car has also had its fair share of tricks, fitted with the more desirable, and more affordable Sport kit, H&R lowering springs and KONI adjustable damping shocks. Stance almost the same as the H&R Coil over kit ride is superb and cost saving of over R 6000.00 just in the suspension. Also fitted with Powerflex control arm bushes these cars are on rails.
Thanks to MILLTEK for sponsoring the 2 muffler systems full house Decat system non resonated all the way through, the sound of these cars is insane. If you need to take mom to church on Sunday go with the resonated system however you will need to avoid back seat driver chatter!! Remember de catting a car also makes it noisier so a full decat non resonated is designed to attract attention.
The white KONI car is also fitted with the latest offering Chip box and pedal booster box. 1400 cc , never this thing is quicker than most 2.0 litres VW Turbo cars.
Up coming Projects
The Mk 1 Golf is now sold to a complete Petrol head and friendly Nutter:
A 16 valve FSI engine is purchased, orders are out for all the crazy bits to turn it into a 200 HP plus normally aspirated monster . Ashley will lead the team to transform the 1,4 I Citi Golf in to a performance machine , Already equipped with the top of the range H&R Coilies and POLO 1.9 TDI wheels the car recently painted by GRAND TECH AUTO ( sounds like a Play station game ) so the looks department and handling are ready for the engine transplant .
Another project we are hoping to acquire is the transplant of the Engine in Tyrells class b Mk 1 in to his POLO Cup car . Not as easy as it sounds as the cable change box needs to become push rods and management systems also need to be changed
